Classify is a productivity app designed to transform the way students organise their lives. Covering
homework, timetable, events, clubs and tasks, the app is an all-in-one solution that makes
organisation the easiest step in a student's success.
What began as a project with classmates at school now has over 250k downloads and is one of the
highest-rated school planner apps available. 🎓
Classroom
In 2023, we began brainstorming a social re-imagining of our app to better cater to our existing users, and
improve key metrics such as retention, conversion rate and user engagement. As Head of Product
and Design, I was tasked with bringing this vision to life, designing from scratch an intuitive
user interface that levelled up our product.
In November 2024, we released Classroom, a novel approach that brings social to the school planner,
predicated on the idea that organisation is easier, faster and more fun when done together,
alongside classmates and friends.
Design
Whether it's a social platform or planner, users tend to expect specific design patterns, ingrained through repetition. Crafting an interface that combines both, without feeling unfamiliar or unfresh, is a continual battle and responsibility of mine.
Development
Using Flutter and Firebase, both relatively new technologies, we embarked on creating a robust and scalable application with next to no budget. I contribute primarily to frontend development, translating my own designs to code with pixel-perfect accuracy. A way to put my Computer Science degree to some use, I suppose.
Marketing
From time to time, I make TikToks and YouTube videos to tell our story and bring fresh eyes to our product. I may prescribe to the Hicks and Carlin line of thinking when it comes to this sort of thing, but it's nice to have an outlet to document our journey, as students, as friends and as a business. I also run our Discord server.
Product Management
When we started this, we set out to make a school planner better than anything else available to students, even pen and paper. Our goals are loftier, numbers bigger, but the vision remains the same. Preserving, nurturing and furthering that as we grow is a challenge, but a necessary one.
